Presentation:

While carbon credits have dominated the conversation on conservation finance, the market is rapidly evolving toward broader "Nature Credits" that value biodiversity and other ecosystem services. This presentation will explore how the blue economy can look beyond carbon to unlock new revenue streams. Drawing on Finance Earth’s work such as the "High Integrity Marine Natural Capital Markets Roadmap" and the UK’s terrestrial Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) market, the speaker will discuss how these credit models could apply to the marine sector. The speaker will to also cover practical examples of marine and coastal programmes we developed with their partners, such as the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) Venture Builder with WWF, to demonstrate how the coastal and marine economic sectors (fisheries, seaweed farming, etc.) can layer revenue from a range of sources to achieve conservation outcomes.
