Coast 4C: working with smallholders to future proof the supply of quality, responsible seaweed

Frenz Garcia, Production Director, Coast 4C, Philippines

About the speaker:

Frenz is a production and operations leader building scalable, regenerative seaweed supply chains in the Philippines. As Production Director at Coast 4C, she leads the development of high-quality, reliable supply from smallholder farmers, strengthening productivity, quality, and adoption of regenerative practices across coastal communities.

Her work focuses on translating complex, field-level realities into structured, scalable production systems — improving farmer performance, increasing supply consistency, and enabling stronger integration with global markets. She plays a central role in transitioning traditional seaweed farming into a more efficient, resilient, and commercially viable model, supporting Coast 4C’s growth as a dependable supplier of responsible seaweed.

With deep experience in coastal systems and community engagement, Frenz combines operational execution with a strong understanding of how to scale inclusive, market-driven production.

Company info:

Coast 4C, a 2024 Earthshot Prize Finalist, works with smallholder farmers in Southeast Asia to future proof the supply of quality, responsible seaweed to decarbonise food, feed, fertiliser and plastic value chains. Seaweed farms in Southeast Asia are underproductive, underutilised and unsustainable, creating challenges for processors seeking a consistent supply of quality seaweed to meet growing market demand. Coast 4C aggregate smallholder farmers and provide input, market and technical support to help solve this challenge. Our model provides improved livelihood opportunities, particularly for women, that incentivises and catalyses a 45x increase in protection of blue carbon habitats.

Presentation:

Frenz will present on the GROW farm input package that Coast 4C have developed and how this empowers smallholder producers to provide a 6-10x uplift in production per farmer and the associated benefits for farmers and the industry alike.
